Message Regarding Federal Funding Pause

Updated 1-28-25

On Monday, January 27, the U.S. Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) sent a memo to heads of federal executive departments and agencies requiring a temporary pause of agency grant, loan, and other financial assistance programs, effective 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 28.

While we do not have many details at this time, we do not anticipate much impact on Housing New Mexico | MFA, as we operate with resources other than federal funds. We are in the process of gathering facts and will share information as we become aware of anything that may impact our programs. We are also in communication with the National Council of State Housing Agencies, which advocates for all state housing agencies in Washington D.C.

Our intent until further notice is to continue to operate and fund our partners and programs as normal.

As outlined in the memo from OMB, federal agencies are required to submit to the OMB detailed information on any programs, projects, or activities related to the current administration’s policies and requirements no later than February 10 and must immediately identify any legally mandated actions or deadlines for assistance programs arising during the temporary pause.

At this early stage, we do not know what this means for grants, loans, or financial assistance Housing New Mexico | MFA receives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, or the Internal Revenue Service.

Again, we will provide updates as information is gathered and we receive more details.
