Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)
This program extends housing support to low-income individuals (and their families) diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, offering various forms of aid such as short-term rent, mortgage, or utility assistance (STRMU), tenant-based rental assistance (TBRA), permanent housing placement assistance (PHP), and other support services.
All participants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Must have HIV/AIDS diagnosis
- Must be living below 80% of area median income
Three Options for HOPWA Housing Assistance:
- Tenant-based rental assistance: Rental assistance for low-income individuals and families.
- Short-term rent, mortgage and utility assistance: Rental, mortgage or utility assistance for individuals and families who are at risk of becoming homeless; increased access to supportive services.
- Permanent housing placement: Moving cost assistance to help unhoused families and individuals move into permanent housing. The following items may be covered: Application fees and credit check expenses; One-time utility connection fees; Rental security deposits; First and last months' rent.
